Losers in 1 Suit

Theoretically, if everybody have super balance hand : 4-3-3-3 distribution, then for each suit, you will not be able to lose more than 3 tricks. Based on this, then it become a general reference that a suit will not have more than 3 losers.

So, to assess your hand, just scheck the first 3 card after you sort it. Below is the list of the high card/honors and the loser for your quick reference:

AKQ: 0 loser; 9hcp
AKJ: 0.5 loser; 8hcp
AQJ: 0.5 loser; 7hcp

So, what’s the meaning of 0.5 loser? Well, that refer to the positional location of the missing honor. For example: AKJ can have no loser if the queen is with LHO, but become 1 loser if the position is with RHO. Therefore, it’s 0.5 loser.

To make it easy, when we are saying about “Good” suit, that would refer to the suit that has 1.5loser or less.
